EU: Ukraine's Membership Depends on Political Situation

The European Union and Ukraine summit in Kyiv has been completed for design a political cooperation and trade agreements, but the EU will not sign it before Ukraine completing the case of former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was imprisoned.

After the dialogue privately on Monday with President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych, President of the European Union Herman van Rompuy said the agreement has been reached, but the signing of depends on the "political situation."

Van Rompuy said he was worried by what he called politically motivated judicial system in Ukraine. He said the judiciary Tymoshenko is the most obvious examples.

Former prime minister in October was sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of power in 2009 in the gas business with Russia which, according to Russia's opponents are too profitable. He was later sentenced to a number of other allegations.

Tymoshenko denied the various allegations and will appeal.
